IMG_0451 There really is nothing more perfect than a slice of decedent fudgy chocolate cake – not only is this cake a pure crown pleaser, it’s also ridiculously simple to make and tastes like chocolate, nutella and coconut heaven. I whipped this up last weekend for a our very good friends housewarming party, I hope it was a hit as there wasn’t much left by the end of the evening. If you have any celebrations, dinners or birthdays coming up this weekend or shortly, be sure to try this recipe, I’d love to know what you think. I hope everyone had a truly wonderful weekend planned, and in honour of ANZAC Day tomorrow. Lest We Forget. x

One of the very best parts about long weekends is getting to catch up on things around the home that have been on your ‘to do’ list forever – sorting out our bedside tables have been on my list for as long as I can remember. We didn’t really have the budget to sort anything out when we first moved into our home almost three years ago, plus it takes me that long to decided on furniture as there are so many stunning options out there, so we settled for old milk crates that neither of us liked and annoyingly had no storage. After naturally searching high and low for the perfect side table that was high enough to reach our rather high bed, the right size and of course a design that we wouldn’t tire of any time soon – we found, ordered and quickly built our beautiful new Brooklyn side tables from Mocka. And I’m in love, they’re so perfect!

My favourite part about any new furniture is getting to style it, especially bedside tables as each side can be styled so differently. However, you can never go wrong with a beautiful stack of books, magazines or cook books; a beautiful keepsake, I have the vows that Ben said to me at our wedding framed on my side and he has a photo of us from our school ball. A little art,  fresh flowers, a light to read under, and of course a cozy blanket to curl into on a chilly evening. I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend I’d love to hear what you got up to over the long weekend, I’m off to add a few more books to my side of the bed. x

It’s not very often re-share my recipes, but I just can’t help but share my carrot cake recipe again – it’s wonderfully simple to make and really is so perfect. I made this delicious cake almost two years ago for Easter and thought it would be perfect to whip up again this Easter – especially with the horrible weather we’re having at the moment, I think it’s the perfect time to potter in the kitchen and fill your home with the beautiful warm spices from this delicious cake. And of course top with generous amounts of the silkiest cream cheese icing and you’ll have a dessert that everyone will adore this weekend.

I hope that everyone has a truly wonderful long weekend planned with your beautiful friends and family. After some very exciting news yesterday about my hubbies new job offer, we’re off to celebrate with some amazing friends of ours, go to a beautiful house warming and of course eat a silly amount of chocolate. Have a lovely long weekend everyone, I’ll see you again on Tuesday. Happy Easter everyone. xo

With Autumn well and truly here, now is certainly the time to do a little Autumn/Winter shopping so that you stay warm and chic through the cooler months. I’ve always had a very soft spot for well cut jackets and cozy scarves (which is rather obvious from my Pinterest board) – pair this seasons jackets and scarves with jeans, a cozy knit sweater and a killer pair of heels and you’ve got the perfect ‘uniform’ for Winter this year. x

I was so honoured to be asked to share this beautiful campaign that style icon Witchery is running at the moment – it’s a simple and truly lovely goal, save as many womens lives as possible. Last week the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation and Witchery started their White Shirt Campaign to help raise awareness about Ovarian Cancer - a staggering and shocking 200 beautiful women in New Zealand lose their lives to this terrible disease each year. That’s over one a week, and 200 too many!

So Witchery and OCRF have teamed up and are helping find a cure for this heartbreaking disease through fashion, and during April Witchery will be giving 100% of the gross proceeds of every white shirt sold directly to the OCRF. You can also show your support and #uniteinwhite on the 1st of May when everyone will be wearing their beautiful white shirt to help support this amazing cause. This truly is a wonderful cause and something that I believe everyone should share, be apart of and help support in any way possible! Be sure to take a peek at the chic items that Witchery have designed for the White Shirt Campaign, do a little shopping and help save the lives of the most beautiful women this season!

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine was spent inside with my poor hubby who’s been battling a terribly cold, relaxing and doing a little baking. Those who have been generous enough to follow Made From Scratch over the years will know that I have a deep love for baking, I find it enormously relaxing and of course there really is nothing like filling your home with the smell of baking, and then sharing it with loved ones, it’s just divine.

You may have also noticed that my hubby and I are doing the Fit24 Challenge this month – which is eeek, all about lowing the amount of sugar that you eat. It was not at all easy for me to cut back the amount of sugar that I eat, for me the hardest part was going out for dinners or having people over. I love the social aspect around dessert, sharing a delicious slice of cake with friends while out for coffee or dinner, or gossiping over cookies straight from the oven is complete bliss for me. I oddly didn’t get massive cravings or headaches, I just wanted to go out with friends and have dessert. Annoyingly, after 16 days of sugar free living I feel really good, my skin has cleared up, I’m more alert and just generally in a happier mood. Bummer huh! So I thought that seeing as I’m trying this whole sugar free living out for a month I would share a delicious and simple sugar free Chocolate and Almond Cookie recipe that is sure to beat any cravings you may have. Also the wonderfully generous folk from Naturals Sugar have kindly gotten on board with my challenge and are giving one lucky reader their entire range of Naturals Sugar as well as a set of beautiful Bodum Pavina Double Wall Thermo Glasses, how lovely is that! I’d love to know if you have any sugar free baking recipes, it would be so wonderful to try a few more. xo

The ‘kiwi’ dream has always been to own your own home, with a backyard big enough for kiddies to run around and to have a delicious veggie garden. It’s a lovely dream and lifestyle, we own own own home and truly do love it. But after traveling through New York, Paris and especially Kyoto and Tokyo a few years ago Ben and I became a little in love/obsessed with the idea of owning a beautiful town house – something low maintenance, beautifully designed and nestled in a cool part of town. It just sounds like such a fun lifestyle and of course a little romantic too as you tend to see the most beautiful townhouses abroad.

So, as you can only imagine, my jaw completely dropped when I stumbled upon this stunning townhouse in Kyoto, expertly designed by by ALTS Design Office this home truly is a work of art! The high ceilings, crisp white walls, soft blond wood, the most stunning bold yellow kitchen island and of course the brilliant idea of building a little house within this home really does show that even the smallest of homes can feel open, full of light and beyond inviting! I could quite happily call this beautiful space our home. I hope everyone has a lovely day planned, I’m off to day dream/admire a few more beautiful townhouses!
