lemon and almond friand made from scratch

I’ve always found it so lovely that lemons are in season during winter – it’s almost like nature wants to remind us of brighter things on gloomy winter days. So because this week has been particularly gloomy,  yesterday afternoon I whipped up a batch of delicious and very simple Lemon, Almond and Coconut Friands – not only is the texture of these small cakes divine, they’re also incredible adaptable. You can easily switch the lemon and coconut for raspberry and white chocolate or a classic lime friand – the possibilities are truly endless, and of course delicious! I’d love to hear what your favourite friand flavour is.

I’m also so excited to share that I’ve been asked by the truly lovely and talented Lauren Kelp to be a guest blogger on her beautiful blog – as it’s summer in the states Lauren is generously sharing a few of my older recipes, but shortly I’ll be sharing exclusive recipes for Lauren. If you haven’t had a peek at her work yet, you must, it’s so beautiful! I hope everyone has a lovely day planned and are tucked up somewhere warm away from the rain. x

There are truly no words to describe how incredibly thankful I am for all of your generosity, support and love towards Gem, Nath, Coco Darling and their family – they are so grateful and humbled by your love. In tragic and heart breaking moments like this you feel terribly helpless, if you wish to help Gem and Nath through this time please have a look at this post for more details. The generosity has been beyond what I ever imagined would come of this, all I can do is thank you with all of my heart!

I shared on my Instagram account this afternoon a little of what I was up to – my ‘therapy’ has always been to bake and adapting old recipes, I find baking so calming and it always add’s a little comfort to dark and cold winter days. And as promised, here is the delicious recipe I adapted from a 1978 edition of The Australian and New Zealand Family Cookbook that my Grandma so kindly handed down to me. I wanted to add a modern and warm touch to the classic chocolate chip cookie, the end result is a perfect batch of Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies, with a twist of orange zest and delicate spices – which turns out to be a perfect combination of flavours. These cookies are so simple to make and are a delicious treat for a cold winters evening, I’d love to know what you think. x

carrot-cake-made-from-scratch

It’s not very often re-share my recipes, but I just can’t help but share my carrot cake recipe again – it’s wonderfully simple to make and really is so perfect. I made this delicious cake almost two years ago for Easter and thought it would be perfect to whip up again this Easter – especially with the horrible weather we’re having at the moment, I think it’s the perfect time to potter in the kitchen and fill your home with the beautiful warm spices from this delicious cake. And of course top with generous amounts of the silkiest cream cheese icing and you’ll have a dessert that everyone will adore this weekend.

I hope that everyone has a truly wonderful long weekend planned with your beautiful friends and family. After some very exciting news yesterday about my hubbies new job offer, we’re off to celebrate with some amazing friends of ours, go to a beautiful house warming and of course eat a silly amount of chocolate. Have a lovely long weekend everyone, I’ll see you again on Tuesday. Happy Easter everyone. xo

Happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Mine was spent inside with my poor hubby who’s been battling a terribly cold, relaxing and doing a little baking. Those who have been generous enough to follow Made From Scratch over the years will know that I have a deep love for baking, I find it enormously relaxing and of course there really is nothing like filling your home with the smell of baking, and then sharing it with loved ones, it’s just divine.

You may have also noticed that my hubby and I are doing the Fit24 Challenge this month – which is eeek, all about lowing the amount of sugar that you eat. It was not at all easy for me to cut back the amount of sugar that I eat, for me the hardest part was going out for dinners or having people over. I love the social aspect around dessert, sharing a delicious slice of cake with friends while out for coffee or dinner, or gossiping over cookies straight from the oven is complete bliss for me. I oddly didn’t get massive cravings or headaches, I just wanted to go out with friends and have dessert. Annoyingly, after 16 days of sugar free living I feel really good, my skin has cleared up, I’m more alert and just generally in a happier mood. Bummer huh! So I thought that seeing as I’m trying this whole sugar free living out for a month I would share a delicious and simple sugar free Chocolate and Almond Cookie recipe that is sure to beat any cravings you may have. Also the wonderfully generous folk from Naturals Sugar have kindly gotten on board with my challenge and are giving one lucky reader their entire range of Naturals Sugar as well as a set of beautiful Bodum Pavina Double Wall Thermo Glasses, how lovely is that! I’d love to know if you have any sugar free baking recipes, it would be so wonderful to try a few more. xo
