Baking Class

Hello everyone, I hope that you had a very lovely weekend, I’d love to know what you got up to. I was honoured to host my second baking class, it really is such a lovely way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I was lucky enough to have the oh so sweet Amanda Amundsen in my class, she was also sneaking around taking the gorgeous photos above! I am also so excited to announce my first Ruffle Cake Decorating Class, this one will be so much fun I can’t wait to show you how to decorate your own ruffle cake. x

Oh my, the 21st of July 2012 was the most amazing afternoon, it was my very first baking class for Made From Scratch. I was so honoured to teach six very lovely ladies how to make red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing, brownies and lemon curd from scratch. We had a wonderful afternoon of drinking tea, nibbling on teaspoon cookies, baking, chatting, decorating our cupcakes and of course enjoying our spoils at the end. My main goal for these classes is to be able to share with you my passion for baking, show you how to make delicious home made treats for your family but also bend the rules a little – who says a baking class can’t be a beautiful afternoon tea with flowers, bunting and little goodie bags to take home? I have been completely blown away by all the support that I have had for these classes – thank you so much Ellie from Jel Photography who took the stunning photos and video that you see, my beautiful Mum thank you so much for keeping the kitchen and Kora in order you were a life saver, the lovely Lucy Olive who designed the sweet recipe cards, my blog and for everything else that you have ever done for me! And of course the gorgeous ladies who attended to the class, without you this wouldn’t have been possible and I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I did! I can’t wait to release the dates for the next classes, but for now enjoy the photos from the first. x

If you would like to attend one of my baking classes, please email me at hello@madefromscratch.co.nz for more information.

A while ago the very lovely Kaitlin from Kaitlin Chapman Hair and Makeup asked me to make a cake for her birthday yesterday, I was so honoured and incredibly flattered to have been asked, all she wanted was a vanilla cake that had pink in it. So I made her a pink ombre ruffled layer cake – she had no idea that there was going to be different colored layers inside and it was so lovely to be able to surprise her on her birthday! It was such a honour to have made this cake for her and I am so excited to be able to show off my very first ruffle layer cake, I hope you enjoy it as much as Kaitlin and her lovely family did! x

To every Australian at home or abroad, Happy Australia Day! This is one holiday I really miss now that we are living in New Zealand, there was nothing better than everyone all going to the beach and celebrating this wonderful day. So I thought I would do some nostalgic baking, now I know these may not be the lamingtons that you know {normally double or triple in size and sometimes filled with cream} but for me this is what a lamington is, more slice like, with a thick rich coat of chocolate icing and so much coconut that you’d have to shake them before eating them! This is also the first time I have baked these by myself, I’ve only ever made lamingtons before with my Grandma, so I had a lot of fun making these messy treats. Happy Australia Day everyone! x

I hope everyone has had a wonderful week so far, Ben and I took a little trip down to our friend Jolie’s family farm. It is the most wonderful place to get away to for a couple of days, do some baking, wander around the farm and spend time with the most welcoming and lovely family.

As I mentioned in this post at the start of the year, I want to try a new recipe every week and share it with you. I had never heard of or had a Cloud Cake, so Jolie and Diane insisted that we make it for dessert. It’s the easiest ‘cake’ recipe you’ll ever make and is the most deliciously light and refreshing dessert after an amazing home cooked meal. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, Ben and I are off to our good friends Anna and Evan’s wedding soon, we’re so excited to be apart of their special day. Have a lovely weekend. x

I hope everyone had the most incredible Christmas Day yesterday with their family, ours was wonderful with our adorable new puppy Kora and being able to spend some lovely time with our family. Ben and I hosted breakfast at our place for his family and I served this delicious Strawberry Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding for dessert, and thankfully there is still some left over – there is honestly nothing better then grazing at Christmas Day leftovers on Boxing Day. I would love to know how your Christmas Day was. x
